Happy Friday everyone! Its 19 degrees outside, the birds are singing, the sun shining and the cherry blossoms are fit to burst. This weekend is going to be awesome. A bunch of local JETs have arranged a hanami and picnic in Sumpu Park in the shadow of Shizuoka City's own beautiful castle. Care to check it out? Continue reading for your weekend events round-up...
Its that time of year and many cherry blossom viewing festivals are being held over the comming weekends. Now that the Kawazu cherry trees (a kind of early-blooming cherry tree) have finished blooming in the area, the regular cherry trees are gearing up for the main cherry blossom-viewing season. If I can tear you away from the Kanamara "Steel Phallus" Festival for a moment and persuade you to check out a more modest Japanese festival this weekend, here are some links to cherry blossom festivals being held across Shizuoka:
Weeping Plum Blossom Festival [Hosoe-Inasa]
Atagawa Onsen Cherry Blossom Festival [Atagawa Onsen, Atagawa]
Atami Castle Cherry Blossom Festival [Atami Onsen (Akanezaki-Nishikigaura)] <<There will also be fireworks from 8.25~8.40pm.
Fuji Sengen Shrine Motomiya Cherry Blossom Festival [Fujinomiya]
Izukogen Cherry Blossom Festival [Omuro Hills]
Kawane Cherry Blossom Festival [Kawane Town]
Kosai Cherry Blossom Festival [Kosai]
Cherry Blossom Light Up at Naka Bypass [Matsuzaki-cho]
As you can see there is a lot going on this weekend. The Hanging Dolls Festival at Inatori Onsen that I mentioned in this post ends tomorrow (Saturday) so this is your last chance to get down to Inatori on the Izu Peninsula and see it. What are you doing this weekend?
Should be a great weekend and the cherry blossoms should hit their peak in Shizuoaka around April 4th so it is perfect :)

I can't wait for cherry blossom season to hit its peak! :)
DeleteWow lucky you, it's so warm over there now! Tottori is still doing that 7 days cloudy/rainy, 1 day sunny kinda thing. :( Can't wait for hanami, but I think it won't bloom fully till 2nd week of April. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWe've been having some great weather down this way! There are so many cherry blossom festivals starting to crop up around here and so many more to come!
